A Lamb King

In the first four chapters of Revelation, we’re introduced to many names and titles for the Father and the Son: Jesus Christ. Alpha and Omega. Almighty. First and the Last. Living One. Son of God. Lord God Almighty. Lord. God. Lion of the tribe of Judah. Root of David.

And then in chapter 5, John says, “Then I saw a Lamb, looking as if it had been slain, standing in the center of the throne, encircled by the four living creatures and the elders.”

A Lamb. Looking as if it had been slain. We know of course this is no ordinary lamb.

He is also a Lion.

He is a King. He is the King of Kings.

Someday, the Lamb King will return to the earth He created, but He will not come back as a lamb to be led to slaughter. He will come back on a white horse with eyes blazing like fire. With justice, He will judge and make war. The armies of heaven will be with Him.

On His robe and on His thigh, He has this name written:

KING OF KINGS AND LORD OF LORDS.

As we remember and celebrate the birth of the Lamb, let’s also remember the Lamb is coming back as the all-powerful KING OF KINGS.

And He alone is worthy of all praise and honor and glory.
