A Lesson From George Bailey

40 Days of Believing God – Day 33

I’m going to assume you’ve seen the movie “It’s A Wonderful Life.” If not, go rent it or be sure to watch it this December. It’ll be on again.

George Bailey is a great guy who’s experienced failure, bitter disappointment and really tough circumstances. He’s so discouraged by it all that he wishes he’d never been born. His guardian angel, Clarence, grants his wish so George can see the influence he’s had on people.

The world without George has gone horribly wrong. People who should have lived have died. The woman who would have been his wife never marries. The town is in terrible shape. People’s lives have dramatically changed…for the worse.

George was a man of great influence even though he didn’t know it.

You are a man or woman of great influence…even if you don’t know it.

Your spouse, your children, your friends, your co-workers, people at church, others in your town–they’re watching you. They’re being influenced by you. They’re counting on you. Your choices matter to them. Not only to them, but also to the generations to come. Your great-great grandchildren will be greatly effected by your choices today to believe God or not.

Your present suffering, your painful and confusing circumstances are not just about you. You have far reaching influence whether you think so or not. You and your choices today matter. They matter greatly.

If you quit on your marriage or give up on your dream or stop trying to resist temptation or throw in the towel on your rebellious child, then everything changes…for the worse.

George Bailey got to see what life would have been like without him. I wonder if you’d still quit, if you’d still choose to stop believing God if you could see what life would be like for you and those around you…for generations to come.
