This football season, I got to see several Arkansas Razorback home games. Few events compare to the excitement of major college football. One of my favorite moments is the flyover at the conclusion of the national anthem. I love the anticipation of seeing the jets swoop over the stadium.
Razorback stadium seats somewhere around 75,000 people. It’s not even close to some of the largest stadiums like they have at Penn State, Michigan, Tennessee and some other schools, but 75,000 people is still a lot.
Have you been to a large stadium recently to watch a football or baseball game? How about a large arena for a basketball game or a concert?
Close your eyes and imagine this scene. Can you see the stadium filled with people? Now instead of a football or basketball game or concert, see a throne and someone seated on it. He is so majestic and magnificent that you cannot adequately describe Him. From the throne is coming peals of thunder and flashes of lightning.
Around the throne are four creatures you’ve never seen before. Each have six wings covered with eyes. One looks like a lion, one like an ox, one like a man and one like an eagle. They keep saying, “Holy, holy, holy is the Lord God Almighty, who was and is and is to come.” Whenever they speak, the stadium shakes and smoke comes from the throne.
What you are seeing is so incredible you hardly notice the 24 other thrones surrounding the first throne. Seated on the 24 thrones are elders wearing gold crowns. They’re not seated for long though, because they keep falling down before Him who sits on the throne to worship Him.
Then you see someone else approach the throne and take a scroll from the One seated there. When He does, the four creatures and the 24 elders fall down in worship. They can’t help singing, so they sing a new song of praise and worship.
Suddenly, you’re aware of angels seated all over the stadium and you realize there are so many that you can only describe their number as “ten thousand times ten thousand.” It would be impossible to count them all, because there are millions of them. And in a loud voice that dwarfs anything you’ve ever heard, they are singing to Him who sits on the throne.
It doesn’t seem possible, but somehow you not only see the four creatures and the 24 elders and the millions of angels worshiping, but you now see “every creature in heaven and on earth.” They are singing:
“To Him who sits on the throne and to the Lamb be praise and honor and glory and power, for ever and ever!”
You realize you are singing with them and you hear the four living creatures say, “Amen.” Then the 24 elders again fall down in worship.
That beats any sporting event or concert there’s ever been or ever will be and I believe I’m going.
How about you?
