My latest science fiction addiction is the TV series, “Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles.” I bought season 2 on iTunes.
If you’ve seen the movies, you know human machines from the future have come back in time to kill John Connor, so he can’t lead the resistance against Sky Net in the future. If you haven’t seen the movies, then, well none of this is making any sense to you. Sorry.
In the TV series, John (in the future) sends Cameron, a 16-year-old-looking-female machine, back in time to help protect him as a teenager. No question, you definitely want Cameron on your side. She’s tough and she’s got your back. Cameron also never sleeps so she’s always watching over John and his mom, Sarah.
There was something like that going on about 3,000 years ago.
In 2 Kings 6, the King of Aram is ticked off at Elisha, the prophet, because he keeps telling the King of Israel all the military moves he’s going to make. So the King of Aram sends a strong force to capture Elisha.
Early the next morning, Elisha’s servant sees the enemy army surrounding the city and he’s afraid. Elisha tells him, “Don’t be afraid. Those who are with us are greater than those who are with them.”
Elisha then prays and his servant is able to see the hills are full of horses and chariots of fire. There was nothing to worry about.
Elisha didn’t just stop at telling his servant to not be afraid. He also opened his eyes so he could see the reality of his situation…that God was in control.
Romans 8:31 says, “If God is for us, who can be against us?”
Familiar verse, right? Read it again. Now answer the question.
You won’t have to fight an army or machines from the future today, but you’ve got other battles. Money. Issues at work. A difficult relationship. Negative emotions you can’t get over.
You don’t have to be afraid.
Whatever your battle today, you are not alone. God is for you. He is on your side. He’s got your back. He’s got your front. He’s watching while you sleep. He will not and cannot fail you.
