“Now Samuel died, and all Israel assembled and mourned for him; and they buried him at his home in Ramah.” –1 Samuel 25:1
That’s it. Over. Done. Samuel is dead. Israel mourned. They buried him. They moved on.
Samuel stood out as a solid guy. He was faithful. He did what God required of him, but unfortunately, “his sons did not walk in his ways. They turned aside after dishonest gain and accepted bribes and perverted justice.” (1 Samuel 8:3)
That must have hurt. You give your life to serving Jehovah, but your sons don’t. 3 John 4 says, “I have no greater joy than to hear that my children are walking in the truth.”
Some things seem so important. The car we drive. The house or neighborhood we live in. The size of our retirement account. Who we know. The job we have.
Those things don’t really bring joy though. Temporary pleasure? Sure, but not lasting joy. At the end of my life, whenever that is, I’d rather know my children are walking in the truth.
