The Love of God

A few thoughts about God’s love on a Tuesday afternoon…

“God is love.” (1 John 4:16) Want to know and experience more love? Get to know God better.

God is our Father. Jesus used the term, “Abba, Father” on several occasions. Abba can accurately be translated as “daddy.”

“There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment…” (1 John 4:18) If you have trusted Christ to forgive your sin, then there is no need to fear God’s punishment. He punished Christ for your sin. It’s finished. You’re forgiven.

God the Father loves you as much as He loved Jesus, the Son. (John 17:26)

Nothing will ever stop God from loving you. Nothing. Ever. Not anything you’ve done, said, thought or will do, say or think. (Romans 8:31-39)

The apostle Paul knew how important it was for us to understand God’s love. In Ephesians 3:14-21, he prayed this way:

For this reason I kneel before the Father, from whom his whole family in heaven and on earth derives its name. I pray that out of his glorious riches he may strengthen you with power through his Spirit in your inner being, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith. And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, may have power, together with all the saints, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge—that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God.

Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! Amen.”
