The Truth Will Set You Free

To the Jews who had believed him, Jesus said, “If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” (John 8:31-32)

Jesus said it plainly, “…the truth will set you free.”

I believe the opposite would be “error or wrong thinking will keep you in bondage.”

In bondage to what? Fear. Worry. Doubt. Anxiety. Ultimately to sin.

When we don’t believe what is true, we find ourselves living in bondage to very negative and damaging emotions. Sometimes the emotion can hit us suddenly like when our boss tells us we’re being laid off.

A more subtle, but perhaps an even more damaging condition is when those emotions are a chronic condition. We live in a state of fear and worry that robs us of the peace and joy that is rightfully ours in Christ.

What are you worried about? What are you afraid might happen? Do you find yourself doubting that God will come through?

Wrong thinking is at the root of those negative emotions. To be set free from the bondage, saturate your mind with the truth of God’s word. It’s the only way to recognize wrong thoughts, reject them and be set free…truly free.
