My favorite verse in the Bible is Hebrews 11:6…
And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him.
Matthew 6:33 is similar…
But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.
He wants us to seek Him. To make Him the priority. To care about what He cares about. And when we do, He rewards us and promises to supply our material needs.
So we’re to seek Him, but is there anything God is seeking? Is there anything He’s looking for?
John 4:23 says…
Yet a time is coming and has now come when the true worshipers will worship the Father in the Spirit and in truth, for they are the kind of worshipers the Father seeks.
God is looking for worshipers. In Romans 12:1, the apostle Paul wrote…
Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship.
True worship begins with a sacrifice. It’s putting ourselves on the altar. “Here I am, Lord. I’m Yours.” Until that happens, we limit God and ourselves.
So is God egotistical in seeking people to worship Him? Is He maybe a little insecure and needs our affirmation?
If God needed anything, especially something from us, then that would put us in a superior position. So, no, God does not need our worship. But what if He knows worship is the best thing for us? That desiring Him and adoring Him and proclaiming His goodness and reflecting on His beauty and majesty is good for us?
2 Chronicles 16:9a says…
For the eyes of the Lord range throughout the earth to strengthen those whose hearts are fully committed to him.
The words “range throughout” are actually the same Hebrew word repeated twice. It means “go eagerly or quickly to and fro.” The Lord is looking, even eagerly, to strengthen those who have committed wholeheartedly to being His worshipers.
I won’t speak for you, but it’s sure easy for me to be committed to a lot of other things. Mainly my comfort and my pleasure. It’s easy to desire the material things more than I desire Him. If that’s you too, then crawl back onto the altar with me. Offer yourself to Him again.
He’s looking for us.
I just released my new 40-day devotional as an eBook on Amazon. It contains the powerful truths the Lord taught us leading up to and during Robyn’s treatment for leukemia. If you’re currently facing a challenge or know someone who is, then you’ll find hope and encouragement through what we learned.
