In Mark chapter 4, Jesus and His disciples get into a boat to head to the other side of the lake. After setting out, Jesus takes a nap and that’s when all hell breaks loose. A “furious squall” came up and waves started breaking over the boat. The disciples are scared to death, thinking they’re going to drown.
They woke Him up and said, “Teacher, don’t You care if we drown?”
Jesus got up, calmed the storm and then said to them, “Why are you so afraid? Do you still have no faith?”
With a couple thousand years of hindsight, it’s easy to look at the disciples and wonder how they could have missed it so badly. “Come on, guys, you’ve got the Creator of the Universe in the boat with you! Relax already!”
I wonder what they’d say to us today. “Yeah, well at least we thought our lives were in imminent danger. All you’re worried about is money (or your health or a relationship or a work deadline or whatever). And by the way, He may have been in the boat with us, but He’s INSIDE you and promised He’d never fail you!”
And they’d be right.
