I got serious about fitness and weight training when I was 16-years-old. I was a sophomore in high school and was training for football. After high school and college, I continued training to stay in shape and because I enjoyed it. Years later, I owned a personal training studio and worked with many clients in the area of physical fitness.
Knowing all that I know, I have to admit that it’s still hard sometimes to stick with it. Almost anything can get in the way. We moved about a month ago. It disrupted my routine. We no longer live close to the fitness club. Then I was sick for a couple weeks. I’ve tried to keep up with running, but I haven’t done any weight training in at least a month. It shows, too.
I made it back to the fitness club today. It wasn’t a great workout, but it was a start…or a re-start.
Maybe you resolved four months ago to get in shape. Not just physically, but spiritually. Maybe you started strong, but then life got in the way. It’s been awhile since you’ve worked out or spent time with the Lord.
Don’t beat yourself up. Don’t give in to feelings of failure. Don’t listen to the enemy’s lie when he says you’ll never be able to change.
You can start over. Today. Just start over. Go for a walk or go back to the gym. Pick up your Bible and read a chapter. Spend a little time in prayer.
“Because of the LORD’s great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.” Lamentations 3:22-23
God’s compassions are new every morning. Everyday is an opportunity to start over. Don’t be hard on yourself and don’t give up. You can start over.
